Homelessness Intervention & Prevention Officer

About the role

Join a South London local authority as a Homelessness Intervention & Prevention Officer, delivering high‑quality prevention services and sustainable housing solutions for vulnerable households. You will work within a hybrid model, balancing office collaboration with remote case management.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out statutory homelessness assessments and issue legally robust S184 decision letters.
• Develop and maintain Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs) to prevent or relieve homelessness.
• Provide expert advice on housing options, welfare benefits, and tenancy rights.
• Negotiate early‑intervention actions with landlords, lenders and family members.
• Manage a complex, high‑volume caseload focused on prevention outcomes.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies such as social care, probation, health services and voluntary organisations.
• Recommend and allocate prevention tools and funding, including Discretionary Housing Payments and Homelessness Prevention Funds.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with housing legislation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in homelessness prevention, assessment and S184 decision writing.
• Strong knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related legislation.
• Experience managing high‑volume, complex caseloads in a fast‑paced environment.
• Solution‑focused, proactive approach with excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

• Competitive hourly rate of £22.41‑£29.72 (PAYE after fixed‑term commencement).
• Hybrid working – 2 to 3 days in the office, remainder remote.

• Temporary to fixed‑term contract after 12 weeks, with potential for extension.
