Homelessness Prevention Officer

About the role

Rochdale Council is seeking a motivated Homelessness Prevention Officer to join its Homelessness & Prevention Service on a six‑month temporary contract. You will work directly with residents facing housing crises, helping them achieve stable accommodation and positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a personal caseload and conduct homelessness assessments.
• Develop personalised housing plans and collaborate with partners in housing, health, social care and the voluntary sector.
• Provide advice on housing options, resolve landlord/tenant disputes and assist with finding private rented accommodation.
• Determine threat of homelessness, take reasonable steps to secure accommodation and investigate eligibility for assistance.
• Arrange interim placements and support rehousing into suitable accommodation.
• Prepare reports and attend multi‑agency meetings concerning homelessness, child safety and vulnerable adults.

Required profile

• Experience in homelessness prevention and housing casework.
• Knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Strong assessment, decision‑making and case management abilities.
• Customer‑focused, solution‑driven approach.
• Ability to build effective relationships with customers and partner agencies.
• Valid Basic DBS, UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Required skills

• Knowledge of relevant housing legislation (Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017).
