Interim Housing Repairs Consultant – London Borough

About the role

The London Borough is seeking an experienced Interim Housing Repairs Consultant to stabilise its housing repairs service for an initial three‑month period. You will provide hands‑on leadership, operational oversight and rapid improvement of performance across all repair and maintenance workstreams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the stabilisation of the repairs and maintenance service, addressing operational inefficiencies.
• Oversee the Direct Labour Workforce, managing scheduling, productivity and deployment.
• Improve delivery of responsive repairs, planned maintenance, M&E servicing, damp & mould remediation and disrepair case management.
• Diagnose root causes of service failure and implement sustainable improvements.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and health & safety requirements, especially gas, electrical and building systems.
• Strengthen work ordering, triage, contractor interface and performance management processes.
• Provide clear reporting, recommendations and recovery plans to senior stakeholders.
• Support the development of KPIs, governance frameworks and operational controls.
• Enhance customer experience through better responsiveness and communication.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in local authority or social housing repairs and maintenance.
• Strong background managing or advising Direct Labour Operations.
• Experience in turnaround, stabilisation or service recovery environments.
• Ability to work at pace with a hands‑on, delivery‑focused approach.
• Excellent stakeholder management with senior leadership.
• Data‑driven mindset for performance analysis and rapid improvement.
