ITV News Traineeship 2027

About the role

ITV News is offering a nine-month traineeship for aspiring journalists, starting on Monday 1 February 2027. Trainees learn the skills needed to work in multi-media news operations, with regular feedback and guidance. The programme is open to 11 trainees: six in English regional newsrooms (Anglia, Central, Granada, Meridian, Tyne Tees & Border, West Country), two in national newsrooms (Cymru Wales in Cardiff and UTV in Belfast), two in the London network newsroom and one in the Jersey office.

Required profile

• Commitment to a career in journalism, shown through writing, work experience, academic choices or past career.
• GCSE in English Language grade 4/C or above, and evidence of genuine interest in news output.
• Aged over 18 by 1 February 2027.
• Based in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands with the right to work; no sponsorship available.
• Willingness to travel to other regions for short training periods; no working from home during the scheme.

What we offer

• Salary of £30,195 per year (£22,646 over 9 months).
• Five weeks' paid annual leave pro rata, plus public holidays.
• Most training in the home newsroom or virtually, with accommodation and travel costs covered away from home base.

Applications are made online only, with two 60-second video clips or a written statement. The scheme opens on 1 September 2026 and is assessed in two stages; candidates from disabled backgrounds are guaranteed consideration to the second stage. Permanent roles after the traineeship are predominantly office-based and involve early, late and weekend shifts.
