Mechanical Engineer – Nuclear & Offshore Projects

About the role

Join Assystem’s Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit as a Mechanical Engineer. Based in Sunderland, you will support the development and delivery of work packages for nuclear, marine and oil & gas clients, working in a hybrid model.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and plan project tasks for a team of engineers, coordinating with project management.
• Deliver high‑quality mechanical and structural engineering solutions across diverse topics.
• Provide regular technical progress updates to the Lead Engineer and Project Manager.
• Mentor junior and graduate engineers, offering technical guidance.
• Manage time effectively to meet deadlines, cost targets and quality standards with minimal supervision.

Required profile

• Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Relevant senior engineering experience in offshore, renewables, nuclear or other highly regulated sectors.
• Strong background in mechanical and structural engineering, including knowledge of welding and machining processes.
• Familiarity with European and offshore standards such as Eurocode 3 and DNV.
• Ability to work through the full engineering design cycle from concept to manufacture.
• Eligibility to meet UK security requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD tools: Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and/or CATIA.
• Strong mathematical skills using MathCAD.
• Experience producing technical design and substantiation reports.
• Finite Element Analysis expertise, preferably with ANSYS Workbench.
• Knowledge of non‑linear and fatigue FEA in line with DNV and Eurocode guidelines.
