Personal Advisor - Through Care Service

About the role

The Through Care Service provides social work and personal advice to children in care and care leavers aged 12 to 25. The council is recruiting Personal Advisers to give direct support to care leavers aged 16-25, helping them achieve positive outcomes after leaving care. The role emphasises a family-valued approach and relational practice.

Required profile

• Experience working with young people in care or with a care history
• Ability to engage, support and empower young people facing a range of needs and challenging circumstances
• Right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not offered
• Appointment is conditional on a satisfactory DBS check

Required skills

• Strong assessment skills and the ability to analyse complex information
• Knowledge of the challenges care leavers face as they move into adulthood
• Understanding of the legal framework for care leavers, housing, homelessness and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and care leavers
• Confidence applying legislation to real-world situations

Guaranteed interviews are offered to members of the Armed Forces and veterans, people currently in or previously in care, and people who identify as disabled or have a long-term health condition. The interview is scheduled for Wednesday 2 December, and the closing date is 20 November 2026. The salary is £28,598 to £34,434 pro rata for part-time hours, on a full-time permanent basis of 37 hours.
