Reception Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Wigan)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Reception Teaching Assistant to join a friendly 2‑form entry primary school in Wigan. The role starts in September and is intended to be long‑term, supporting the youngest learners as they transition into formal education.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the class teacher in delivering the EYFS curriculum.
• Lead small‑group activities focused on phonics, early literacy and numeracy.
• Observe pupils and contribute to student profiles and assessments.
• Create a safe, engaging and inclusive environment through indoor and outdoor play.
• Support pupils with diverse needs to ensure every child thrives.

Required profile

• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
• Proven experience in an EYFS or nursery setting.
• Strong understanding of the EYFS framework.
• Patient, creative and energetic approach to learning.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Legal right to work in the UK.

Required skills

• Knowledge of phonics programmes such as Read Write Inc. or similar.
