Registered Midwife – Band 6 (Inpatient & Community)

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated Registered Midwife (Band 6) to join our maternity team in Dumfries and Galloway. The role will primarily support the inpatient maternity service, with potential opportunities to work in community hubs or a hybrid model as the service evolves.

Key responsibilities

• Provide family‑centred, evidence‑based antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to families across the region.
• Deliver 24‑hour inpatient care on 12‑hour or 6‑hour shift patterns within the consultant‑led unit (≈1,000 births per year).
• Utilise birthing suites equipped with en‑suite bedrooms, birthing pools and mobilisation equipment.
• Collaborate with the community midwifery team and support the regional home‑birth service.
• Contribute to continuous professional development and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Required profile

• Registered Midwife, eligible to practice in Scotland.
• Enthusiastic, motivated and able to work shift patterns (12 h or 6 h).
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality, family‑focused maternity care.

Required skills

• Clinical competence in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.
• Ability to work in a consultant‑led maternity unit with birthing pools and mobilisation equipment.
