SEMH Teaching Assistant – Devizes

About the role

The school in Devizes is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a primary‑age pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This full‑time, onsite position offers hands‑on experience in the Special Educational Needs and Mental Health sector.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to the SEMH child throughout the school day (8:30 am – 3:30 pm).
• Implement strategies outlined in the EHCP and monitor progress towards targets.
• Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SEMHCO, and external specialists such as speech therapists and educational psychologists.
• Assist with classroom activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.

Required profile

• Empathetic, patient and able to build trusting relationships with children.
• Strong commitment to long‑term support for the assigned pupil.
• Excellent communication skills for working with staff and specialists.
• Previous experience with children on the autism spectrum is desirable.
