About the role
Hays Education is urgently seeking compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to support secondary‑school students with social, emotional and mental health needs across Manchester. The role offers immediate start and the chance to work in both mainstream and specialist settings.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with SEMH needs.
- Help implement personalised behaviour and emotional‑support strategies.
- Assist classroom teachers in managing challenging behaviour and promoting engagement.
- Foster a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with pastoral teams, SENCOs and external professionals.
- Monitor and report on student progress and emotional wellbeing.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an SEMH or behavioural‑support setting.
- Strong communication, empathy and resilience.
- A calm, proactive and adaptable approach to supporting students with complex needs.
