SEN Provision Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school’s SEN provision in Chelmsford. This is a long‑term, full‑time position supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils across primary age groups, adapting to varied learning abilities.
• Work closely with children presenting ASD, ADHD, SEMH, additional learning needs and behavioural challenges.
• Build positive, supportive relationships that encourage engagement in learning.
• Assist with behaviour management strategies and help create a safe, structured environment.
• Support teachers in delivering lessons and provide one‑to‑one or small‑group interventions.

Required profile

• Prior experience in a Pupil Referral Unit, Alternative Provision, or a similar setting.
• Proven experience supporting pupils with SEN and behavioural difficulties.
• A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to challenging behaviour.
• Flexibility to adapt to different age groups and settings within the provision.
