SEN/ASD Teaching Assistant – Support Children with Autism

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN/ASD Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Tendring, Essex. You will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to help pupils on the autism spectrum thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Assist pupils with learning, communication and development tasks.
• Help manage transitions, routines and changes throughout the school day.
• Support positive behaviour, emotional regulation and sensory processing needs.
• Implement individual learning strategies and monitor progress.
• Encourage independence, confidence and social development.
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to create an inclusive environment.

Required profile

• Patient, calm, understanding and resilient.
• Genuine passion for working with children on the autism spectrum.
• Experience supporting pupils with ASD or related special educational needs.
• Ability to adapt approaches to meet each child’s unique needs.
