Senior Buyer – Indirect Procurement

About the role

Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking a Senior Buyer – Indirect to lead sourcing and commercial activities across a diverse portfolio of site‑works and infrastructure categories. You will work closely with programme, construction, engineering, operations and commercial teams to shape requirements, influence early decisions and build a resilient supply chain for our Small Modular Reactor programme.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement sourcing and category strategies aligned to cost, schedule and quality targets.
• Lead end‑to‑end procurement processes including pre‑qualification, RFx, tender evaluation, negotiation and contract award.
• Build and manage a scalable supply base for siteworks, infrastructure, enabling works and operational services.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to influence early‑stage design and delivery decisions.
• Provide commercial insight, translating technical and market data into robust recommendations.
• Ensure governance, compliance and documentation standards are applied consistently.
• Monitor supplier performance, identify risks and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the development of procurement tools, processes and ways of working as the function scales.

Required profile

• Proven experience in procurement operations within infrastructure, construction or related environments.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering competitive tenders and negotiating supplier agreements.
• Background in complex, regulated or safety‑critical industries such as energy, nuclear, aerospace or defence.
• Ability to work across technical and commercial interfaces, balancing cost, programme and supply‑chain considerations.
• MCIPS certification or working towards it is desirable.

What we offer

• Salary range £44,600 – £55,150 per year, dependent on experience.
• Performance‑related bonus up to 12.5%.

• Hybrid working from Derby, Manchester or Warrington offices.
