Senior Buyer – M&E/MEP for Rail & Construction

About the role

The Senior Buyer will lead procurement of mechanical and electrical (M&E) packages for rail and infrastructure projects delivered by a specialist subcontractor. Based in Birmingham and working on‑site three days a week, you will support high‑value programmes where purchasing decisions directly affect project success.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end procurement of M&E and MEP packages across live rail and infrastructure sites.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
• Negotiate commercial terms to secure best value and manage risk.
• Support project teams with procurement strategy, cost control and purchase order management.
• Monitor supply‑chain performance, resolve issues and prevent programme delays.
• Manage variations and ensure procurement documentation reflects live project changes.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Senior Buyer in M&E/MEP procurement within rail or infrastructure environments.
• Background working for a subcontractor delivering to Tier 1 contractors.
• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
• Ability to handle multiple packages and competing deadlines in a fast‑paced, project‑driven setting.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
