Senior Construction Underwriter – New Business

About the role

The underwriting team at IPS Group is seeking a Senior Construction Underwriter to lead new‑business activities. Based in Birmingham (with options for Manchester or Leeds), you will drive growth of a £25M construction portfolio and work closely with senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite construction risks across a multi‑line portfolio, assessing, pricing and negotiating new business opportunities.
• Manage a steady flow of submissions through CRM systems and make timely, commercially sound underwriting decisions.
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships across the UK, communicating appetite and converting opportunities.
• Develop and manage your own pipeline of business and support open‑market trading activity.
• Act as a referral point for complex risks, mentor junior underwriters and provide technical guidance.
• Contribute to strategic evaluations of facilities, schemes and tenders to support portfolio growth.

Required profile

• Proven experience in construction underwriting, either as an established senior underwriter or an underwriter ready to step up.
• Ability to influence underwriting strategy and work with senior leadership.
• Strong commercial acumen and decision‑making capability.
