Senior DevOps Engineer – SFIA Level 4

About the role

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer operating at SFIA Level 4 to design, build and support secure cloud‑native infrastructure across AWS and Azure. The role is hybrid, with two days per week in our Newcastle office, and works within Agile delivery teams to drive automation, reliability and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Build, manage and support cloud infrastructure primarily in AWS (including Fargate) with Azure exposure.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Implement configuration management and environment automation with Ansible and Chef.
• Design, maintain and optimise CI/CD pipelines in GitLab.
• Deploy and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS/AKS).
• Write automation scripts in Python, Bash and PowerShell.
• Support data and orchestration platforms such as Apache Spark and Apache Airflow.
• Use Jupyter Notebooks for development, troubleshooting and analysis.
• Implement monitoring, logging and observability with Prometheus, Grafana and Splunk.
• Apply DevSecOps practices, including vulnerability scanning with Trivy, Trend Micro and Wiz.
• Support networking, cloud connectivity and integration with DWP products (DAL, SFT).
• Collaborate with engineering, security and operations teams to improve platform reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to DevOps standards.
