Senior Finance Assistant

About the role

Our client, a well‑established company on the outskirts of Chelmsford, is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Assistant to join their friendly Accounts team on a permanent, office‑based basis.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns for multiple entities.
• Provide guidance to junior Finance Assistants and act as the senior point of contact for external finance queries.
• Manage inter‑company invoicing, recharges, reconciliations and resolve balance discrepancies.
• Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations, including multi‑currency accounts.
• Post accruals, pre‑payments and month‑end journals, supporting month‑end close and management accounts.
• Process sales and purchase invoices, run supplier payments and reconcile supplier statements.
• Maintain accurate sales, purchase and nominal ledgers, review aged debtors/creditors and clear historic balances.
• Reconcile balance‑sheet control accounts and maintain supporting schedules.
• Assist with audit requirements and statutory compliance.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience in a similar finance role.
• AAT qualification (or part‑qualified) is advantageous but not essential.
• Proven experience in a multi‑entity environment with strong VAT, inter‑company and accruals knowledge.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and maintain high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Sage Line 50.
• Experience with a cloud‑based ERP system.

• Salary band £35,000‑£38,000, dependent on experience.
