Senior Occupational Therapist – Acute Medicine

About the role

The Acute & Emergency Medicine Therapy team at Luton & Dunstable Hospital is looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join a 7‑day extended‑hours service. This fixed‑term Band 6 position provides an excellent development pathway for an experienced Band 5 therapist ready to take on greater responsibility in a fast‑paced emergency department and acute medical wards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct advanced occupational therapy assessments for patients with complex physical and psychological conditions and deliver individualized treatment plans.
• Manage a personal caseload and take ownership of a defined patient group without direct supervision, with senior support available as needed.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate timely, patient‑centred discharges and contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Supervise, educate and assess occupational therapy students, apprentices and junior staff on placement, ensuring compliance with university standards.
• Participate in regular clinical supervision and engage in ongoing CPD and OT Excellence training.

Required profile

• Registered Occupational Therapist with at least Band 5 experience in an acute hospital setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage a diverse caseload.
• Commitment to the Trust’s values and to delivering high clinical standards.
• Experience supervising students or junior staff is desirable.
