Sister / Charge Nurse – Short Stay Unit

About the role

Join a busy 38‑bed Short Stay Unit (SSU) that forms part of the emergency pathway in a multi‑specialty hospital. The unit works closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, advanced nurse practitioners, pharmacists and a robust medical team to deliver rapid, patient‑focused care.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and effective day‑to‑day operation of the ward.
• Provide clinical leadership and guidance to junior staff and student nurses.
• Mentor, assess and support student nurses throughout their placements.
• Ensure strict adherence to policies, procedures and regulatory standards.
• Facilitate smooth patient flow and coordinate admissions from ED, Acute Medical Unit and same‑day emergency care.
• Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes.
