Temporary Field Operations Engineer – 6‑Month Contract

About the role

We are looking for a Temporary Field Operations Engineer to join a 6‑month assignment supporting technical deployments and on‑site IT operations across the UK. The role is hands‑on, field‑based and ideal for candidates who enjoy variety, problem‑solving and delivering reliable infrastructure in fast‑moving environments.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy, install and maintain IT and network infrastructure at multiple client sites, including switches, firewalls, servers, structured cabling and workstation environments.
• Rack, cable, configure and troubleshoot network and endpoint hardware to ensure secure and high‑performing services.
• Support firewall implementations, switch roll‑outs and network connectivity in collaboration with network engineers and project teams.
• Monitor and upgrade LAN/WAN networks, wireless solutions, PDUs, UPS systems, cooling equipment and communications cabinets.
• Provide on‑site technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, biometric devices, kiosks and mobile devices.
• Manage operating system installations, security patching, user accounts, permissions, endpoint management and surveillance systems.
• Travel nationwide (and occasionally internationally) to deliver deployments, upgrades and maintenance projects.
• Oversee procurement, inventory and lifecycle of IT assets, maintaining accurate records and coordinating with vendors and contractors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in field‑based IT infrastructure deployment and support.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple sites and adhere to health and safety standards.
