Youth Justice Officer – Youth Justice Team

About the role

The Youth Justice Officer will join Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's Youth Justice Team, providing direct support to young people who have offended or are at risk of offending. This full‑time temporary position works closely with a range of partner agencies to safeguard and rehabilitate children and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise young people who have committed offences or are at risk of offending.
• Collaborate with Police, Probation, Health, Courts, Education and other agencies to deliver coordinated support.
• Interview and assess young people, parents and carers using specified assessment tools.
• Develop risk, safety and wellbeing plans to protect the child/young person and others.
• Design and deliver individual and group programmes aimed at preventing crime and supporting those who have offended.
• Provide guidance and support to parents/carers.
• Manage cases in line with national and local standards and prepare court reports.
• Represent the team in Youth Court, Magistrates Court, Crown Court and at Police stations.

Required profile

• Relevant professional qualification or degree (e.g., Social Work, Probation Studies, Youth Justice Effective Practice, Youth and Community Work).
• Experience of direct work with children, young people, families and the community.
• Experience conducting assessments of need and risk for children and young people.
• Knowledge of legislation, standards and requirements relating to youth justice.
