Airframe Structures Test Engineer Placement – 12.5‑month Internship

About the role

This 12.5‑month placement is with Airbus’ Airframe Structures Test team at the Aerospace Integrated Research and Test Centre (AIRTeC) in Filton, Bristol. You will support the design, execution and analysis of structural tests on a range of aircraft components and contribute to cutting‑edge research on new materials and technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build test fixtures and systems for material coupons up to full‑scale wing tests.
• Apply AI‑driven data platforms and virtual simulation tools to enhance test analytics.
• Develop and deploy advanced measurement, control and data‑acquisition techniques.
• Design and commission cryogenic test facilities for hydrogen‑powered flight research.
• Perform hands‑on testing activities, collecting and interpreting results.

Required profile

• Current undergraduate student (must remain enrolled for the full placement) in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
• Ability to submit a CV and a motivation cover letter.
• Interest in at least one of the following areas: physical materials testing, structures, metrology, hydraulics, control systems, data acquisition, cryogenics, virtual testing, finite‑element modelling, AI/ML, computer vision or statistical analysis.
