Ambulance Care Assistant – Mental Health

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic, care‑focused individuals to join our Safe Care Division (Secure Mental Health) in Carlisle. As an Ambulance Care Assistant you will support police and other professionals by transporting service users safely to and from healthcare facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Drive and operate an ambulance safely, either alone or as part of a two‑ or three‑person team.
• Assist service users with challenging behaviour or mental health conditions, including physical intervention when required.
• Transport vulnerable individuals between hospitals, homes, prisons and other care settings.
• Liaise with police and hospital staff to ensure safe conveyance of service users.
• Lift, secure, and help service users in and out of the ambulance, transferring them between beds, stretchers and chairs.

Required profile

• Passionate about helping people and making a difference.
• Full Manual UK driving licence.
• Ability to work collaboratively with police and healthcare professionals.
• Willingness to undergo full training for the role.
