Apprentice HGV Technician

About the role

Volvo Truck & Bus is recruiting Apprentice HGV Technicians for its 2027 apprenticeship programme, based in the Bardon Hill workshop near Coalville, Leicester. The programme is an Advanced Level Apprenticeship lasting 32 months, with possible start dates in May and August 2027. It combines classroom learning with practical on-the-job training.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with repairs carried out according to Volvo Standard Times, using Volvo special tools where appropriate.
• Assist in fault diagnosis and learn and follow warranty procedures during repairs.
• Work with the parts team to ensure the correct replacement parts are fitted.
• Learn to use Volvo special tools safely and efficiently.
• Assist with cleaning the workshop and completing job cards and time recording accurately.
• Report all vehicle defects to the workshop supervisor and wear PPE when required.
• Attend college courses regularly and complete the 18 blocks of training (virtual classes and days in Derby).

Required profile

• Enthusiasm for heavy vehicles and a basic understanding of mechanical systems.
• GCSE A*-C (Grade 4) in Maths and English desired.
• Problem-solving skills, attention to detail, good communication and a team spirit.
