Senior Research Engineer - ADAS

About the role

Thatcham Research, a not-for-profit automotive risk intelligence organisation, is recruiting a Senior Research Engineer for its ADAS programme. You will lead high-profile research into Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, work alongside the Principal Engineer and help insurers understand the risks of new vehicle technologies. The role is permanent, pays circa £62,100 and is hybrid, with at least two days a week in the Thatcham office.

Key responsibilities

• Take ADAS and vehicle technology programmes from first idea through to execution, analysis and final insight
• Create, validate and improve assessment methods, test procedures and frameworks that quantify vehicle risk
• Turn technical information into reports, presentations, briefings and recommendations
• Track emerging technologies, regulation, consumer test programmes and market trends
• Contribute to vehicle evaluation activities on safety, security, damageability and repairability
• Build relationships with manufacturers, insurers, regulators and suppliers, representing Thatcham Research in forums and working groups
• Work across Research, Operations, Product and Data, and help shape the ADAS research strategy

Required profile

• An engineering-related degree or equivalent knowledge gained through experience
• Experience owning complex technical research or engineering projects
• Ability to develop or improve assessment methods and test procedures
• Full driving licence, as the role involves vehicle-related activities
• Right to work in the UK

Required skills

• Essential: hands-on experience with ADAS or related automotive technologies
• Essential: good understanding of electronic, electromechanical and software-enabled vehicle systems
• Desirable: vehicle testing or evaluation, vehicle networks or external test instrumentation, interpretation of raw test data, and knowledge of how vehicle technology affects insurance risk and insurability
