Assistant Professor (Research Focused) in Qualitative Health Screening

About the role
The position supports the NIHR‑funded Service Evaluation of Newborn Screening for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SENS). You will lead data collection and analysis for the acceptability workstream, working within a multidisciplinary team across seven English regions.
Key responsibilities
- Design, conduct and transcribe sensitive interviews and focus groups with patients, families and health professionals.
- Manage and analyse large qualitative datasets using NVivo.
- Collaborate with the wider research team to integrate findings into the stepped‑wedge trial design.
- Prepare high‑quality research outputs for academic journals and stakeholder briefings.
- Engage with patient and public involvement activities and contribute to mixed‑methods research where relevant.
Required profile
- PhD or equivalent experience in qualitative research, health screening, maternity care or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to conduct sensitive interviews and focus groups.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Track record of publishing high‑impact research and presenting to diverse audiences.
- Willingness to travel for in‑person data collection.
Required skills
- NVivo for qualitative data management and analysis.
