Automation System Build Engineer

About the role

Join CircuitHub’s engineering core to build and scale factory automation systems for The Grid, a high‑mix, small‑batch electronics assembly platform. You will work hands‑on in a dynamic Cambridge workshop, constructing everything from hand‑held end effectors to multi‑tonne high‑speed gantries.

Key responsibilities

• Build full automation systems from a mix of custom and off‑the‑shelf components, ranging from hand‑held tools to multi‑tonne gantries.
• Participate in commissioning and testing of assembled systems.
• Liaise with logistics partners to organise system shipment.
• Identify and resolve design issues, feeding feedback to the design team and implementing changes.
• Perform general workshop duties such as tidying, stocking consumables and cleaning machinery.

Required profile

• Ability to interpret 3D CAD assemblies and translate them into physical builds.
• Comfortable with basic mechatronic assembly, fastener selection, torquing and bearing installation.
• Willingness to work onsite in a fast‑evolving workshop environment and adapt schedule as needed.

Required skills

• Fusion 360 (or similar 3D CAD such as Solidworks, Inventor, Creo, Catia, NX, Onshape).
• PLC commissioning and debugging, preferably Beckhoff TwinCAT.
• CNC machining and CNC mill programming.
• Cabinet wiring and basic electrical troubleshooting.

What we offer

• Salary ranging from £35,000 to £60,000 per year, dependent on experience.
