Buyer – Automotive Commodities (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Buyer to manage the procurement of raw materials for an international automotive manufacturing operation. The role involves working with a global supply base, negotiating with suppliers, and supporting multiple manufacturing sites while enjoying a hybrid working arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Manage direct and indirect purchases of automotive commodities across a global supplier network.
• Identify alternative suppliers to mitigate risk and achieve cost reductions.
• Evaluate bids, select suppliers, and negotiate pricing, delivery, quality and service terms.
• Track award progress through to order completion and resolve any supplier issues such as rejections or returns.
• Process purchase requisitions, ensure compliance, and assist accounting with invoice discrepancies.
• Lead purchasing activities for mass‑production and development parts, acting as the interface between engineering, sales and manufacturing.
• Report project results quarterly to the Platform Manager.

Required profile

• Proven experience in the automotive industry.
• Knowledge of plastic and rubber components and a technical understanding of the goods.
• Strong communication, negotiation and problem‑solving abilities.
• Computer literate with experience using MS Project and MRP systems.

What we offer

• Hybrid working model – three days in the office (Monday mandatory) and two days remote.
• Salary up to £40,000 per annum.
• 12% employer pension contribution.

• Standard working hours: Mon‑Thu 7:30 am‑4:30 pm, Fri 7:30 am‑12:30 pm.
