CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist (Bury)

About the role

Join Cygnet Hospital Bury Forestwood as a Consultant Psychiatrist on the Buttercup Ward, a CAMHS Tier 4 PICU caring for young people aged 12‑18 with severe mental illness. You will lead multidisciplinary treatment plans, support recovery, and help transition patients to less restrictive settings.

Key responsibilities

• Work within a multidisciplinary team to develop and oversee patient treatment plans.
• Assess referrals, conduct mental state examinations, and order appropriate investigations.
• Diagnose and treat complex psychiatric conditions.
• Participate in ward rounds, clinical audits, and risk‑management initiatives.
• Lead implementation of risk assessment and embed clinical governance.
• Prepare reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings.
• Take part in an on‑call rota, providing second‑on‑call cover.

Required profile

• Qualified Consultant Psychiatrist with experience in CAMHS Tier 4 PICU settings.
• Proven ability to manage severe mental illness and challenging behaviour in adolescents.
• Strong leadership and collaborative skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
• Commitment to professional development and potential progression to Medical Director level.
