Caretaker Operative – Full‑time, Croydon

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time Caretaker Operative to join our team in Croydon. You will be the front‑line presence for residents, ensuring communal areas are safe, clean and well‑maintained while supporting the overall wellbeing of the neighbourhood.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out regular inspections of blocks and communal spaces, performing minor repairs and reporting issues promptly.
• Monitor estate services such as grounds maintenance and cleaning standards, raising concerns as needed.
• Support fire‑safety compliance, basic maintenance tasks and light gardening.
• Assist with fly‑tipping removal, nuisance reduction and broader community safety initiatives.
• Engage with residents, providing a visible, approachable presence and directing them to appropriate support services.
• Participate in an out‑of‑hours standby rota, with additional payment for emergency cover.

Required profile

• Confidence dealing with challenging behaviour and remaining calm under pressure.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and meticulous attention to detail.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH regulations and manual handling procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and within local communities.
• Clear communication skills and adaptability to different people and situations.
• Eligibility to obtain DBS clearance.

Required skills

• Valid manual driving licence (company van use).

• COSHH knowledge.
• Manual handling competence.
