About the role
Upswing is seeking a Chair of the Board of Trustees to lead its governance at a pivotal growth stage. The role works closely with the artistic director, senior leadership and the board to shape strategy, support bold creative work and ensure the organisation’s long‑term sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the charity’s mission, values and long‑term plan.
- Chair board meetings, set agendas and facilitate effective decision‑making.
- Support fundraising, audience development and partnership initiatives.
- Work with the artistic director and senior team to align artistic vision with organisational capacity.
- Ensure good governance, compliance and risk management.
Required profile
- Proven experience in senior leadership or board governance, preferably in the arts or cultural sector.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit finance, fundraising and stakeholder engagement.
- Commitment to inclusive, narrative‑driven contemporary circus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with artists, staff and external partners.
