Clinical Nurse Specialist – Gender Identity Clinic

About the role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will join the Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) within the Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service. Working Monday to Friday on either a 08:30‑16:30 or 12:00‑20:00 pattern, you will provide specialist nursing care to patients accessing gender identity services and support broader sexual and reproductive health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, treat and review patients in the Gender Identity Clinic, managing both initial and ongoing care.
• Document psychosocial aspects of care and ensure a person‑centred, non‑judgemental approach.
• Contribute to the care of individuals with a range of sexual and reproductive health issues.
• Travel to local clinics across Lothian and support service delivery in multiple locations.
• Participate in nursing team leadership and share management responsibilities.

Required profile

• First‑level registered nurse, mental health nurse or midwife with current NMC registration.
• Post‑registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health.
• Minimum two years post‑registration experience in sexual health, gender identity/trans‑healthcare or a directly related area.
• Clear interest in working within gender identity services.
• Independent non‑medical prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards it.
• Ability to work unsocial hours and travel independently.
