Consultant in Palliative Medicine

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking an enthusiastic Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join its specialist palliative care team. Working within an innovative ‘Hub’ model across three acute University Hospitals and surrounding communities, you will help shape the future delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist palliative care across acute and community settings, ensuring optimal symptom management and care planning.
• Participate in the NHS Lanarkshire SPC Advice and Triage line, offering remote advice and arranging in‑person reviews when needed.
• Cover a 1:9 on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours services, including hospice admissions.
• Collaborate with Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and other multidisciplinary team members.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement, medical education, research and appraisal activities.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with a recognised specialty in Palliative Medicine.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and delivering care across acute and community settings.
• Enthusiastic, innovative and able to influence service development.
• Willingness to engage in teaching, research or quality‑improvement projects.
