Director in Residence – Drama Department

About the role

Tormead School, an academically selective independent school for girls, is looking for a Director in Residence to join its vibrant Drama Department. This part‑time, fixed‑term position offers a graduate or early‑career theatre professional the chance to gain hands‑on directing experience while supporting the school’s creative programme.

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with the Head of Drama to support teaching, rehearsals and productions.
• Direct or co‑direct school productions from audition through to performance.
• Assist practical lessons and examinations, helping students develop performance and technical skills.
• Contribute to stage management, lighting, sound, costume and set planning, and manage departmental resources.

Required profile

• Graduate or early‑career theatre professional with a background in drama, theatre or acting.
• Strong enthusiasm for working with children and young people.
• Organised, adaptable, energetic and professional.
