Family Support Practitioner – Primary & Nursery School

About the role

The Family Support Practitioner will work within Harbour Primary & Nursery School to provide early‑intervention and preventative support for children, families and staff. This part‑time, term‑time position focuses on improving attendance, safeguarding and removing barriers to learning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver early‑intervention activities to address under‑achievement.
• Improve individual pupil attendance through targeted strategies.
• Act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead, ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies.
• Liaise with external agencies on attendance, safeguarding and health matters.
• Build positive relationships with parents, carers and hard‑to‑reach families.
• Work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required profile

• Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a passion for supporting children.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive situations.
• Strong understanding of “Keeping Children Safe in Education” guidelines.
• Knowledge of external agencies that support families.
• Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficient IT and administration skills.
