Financial Controller – E‑commerce Start‑up

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Financial Controller to professionalise the finance function of a fast‑growing e‑commerce start‑up. You will work closely with the founders and senior leadership, owning the core finance processes while building a scalable foundation for future growth.

Key responsibilities

• Own month‑end close, management accounts and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Produce clear monthly reporting packs with commentary for senior leadership.
• Manage cash‑flow forecasting, working capital and cost control.
• Improve controls, processes and reporting as the business scales.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and long‑term planning.
• Partner with commercial, operations and supply‑chain teams on margin, stock and trading performance.
• Manage external accountants, auditors and tax advisors.
• Drive systems, process improvements and automation across finance.
• Help build a scalable finance function suitable for a growing consumer brand.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
• Experience in e‑commerce, D2C, retail, FMCG or another product‑led consumer business.
• Comfortable owning financial control in a fast‑paced SME/start‑up environment.
• Strong expertise in month‑end, reporting, cash‑flow, controls and process improvement.
• Commercially aware of stock, margin, fulfilment, trading and online performance.
• Hands‑on, proactive and able to operate in a lean finance function.
• Confident working directly with founders and senior stakeholders.
• Can introduce structure without slowing the business.
