Group Financial Controller

About the role

The Group Financial Controller will act as the bridge between the central finance team and the finance leaders of multiple operating companies within an expanding acquisitive group. The role combines technical finance expertise with influential analysis to improve reporting quality and speed across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Own a reliable, timely month‑end close for a portfolio of operating companies, ensuring adherence to group close standards.
• Guarantee that all reporting conforms to group policy, resolve technical judgments, and coordinate with external accountants on new standards.
• Review monthly reports with finance leads and managing directors before submission to the group.
• Implement a forecasting and management tool that each operating company can own.
• Transform financial data into FP&A insights, highlighting actionable performance improvement opportunities.
• Lead acquisition accounting for new businesses joining the group.

Required profile

• Practice‑trained with a strong technical finance foundation and hands‑on experience in an SME environment.
• Proven experience owning month‑end close processes with solid UK GAAP exposure.
• Track record of building and running cash forecasts and working‑capital tools.
• Natural influencer capable of prioritising across multiple businesses without direct line management.
• Exposure to M&A accounting.
