Head of Building Safety

About the role

Peabody is seeking an experienced Head of Building Safety to lead the safety function for a portfolio of over 400 high‑rise residential buildings in London. This 24‑month fixed‑term role will shape strategy, ensure regulatory compliance, and embed a culture of safety across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the Building Safety Management Strategy in line with the Building Safety Act 2022 and industry best practice.
• Provide strategic oversight of a 400+ high‑rise residential portfolio, managing risks and ensuring resident safety.
• Lead the preparation, maintenance, and submission of Safety Case Reports.
• Oversee comprehensive risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
• Champion the Golden Thread of information, keeping building data accurate and accessible.
• Manage applications for Building Assessment Certificates and liaise with the Building Safety Regulator.
• Develop compliance reporting frameworks and present performance updates to senior leadership.
• Supervise alterations, refurbishment works, and Permit‑to‑Work processes.
• Drive resident engagement initiatives and address safety concerns promptly.
• Investigate safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement lessons learned.
• Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing Building Safety team.

Required profile

• Substantial experience leading and managing a Building Safety department.
• Deep knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and related regulations.
• Proven ability to work with senior leaders, regulators, residents, and external partners.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
