Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer

About the role

West Berkshire Council is looking for a dedicated Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer to join its Housing Service. The role involves providing high‑quality advice and support to individuals and families at risk of losing their homes, working within a collaborative team environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough assessments of housing needs and deliver appropriate advice and assistance.
• Implement prevention measures to help clients maintain their current accommodation.
• Work collaboratively with external agencies and organisations to secure suitable housing options.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and keep accurate case records.
• Provide ongoing support and guidance throughout the homelessness relief process.

Required profile

• Knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Experience delivering housing advice and support to people facing homelessness.
• Strong assessment and intervention abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Organisational capability to manage a diverse caseload.

Required skills

• Understanding of homelessness legislation (Homelessness Reduction Act 2017).
