About the role

As a member of the Employee Relations team at NHS Borders, the Human Resources Officer will serve as the first point of contact for HR queries across the organisation. You will provide professional advice, case‑management support and guidance on terms and conditions, helping line managers navigate HR issues in a hybrid working environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver HR advisory services to clinical boards including Primary & Community Services, Mental Health and Learning Disability Services, and Corporate Services.
  • Support investigations, disciplinary, attendance, grievance and appeal processes.
  • Provide operational advice on HR matters, interpreting Terms and Conditions of Service, employment law and HR policies.
  • Assist line managers with effective absence management and participate in Employee Relations meetings.
  • Contribute to national projects such as Reduced Working Week, Band 5/6 Nursing review and changes to disclosure legislation.

Required profile

  • Qualification in Business Administration or Human Resource Management (e.g., Certificate in Personnel Practice) or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working within a HR function, preferably in the NHS or similar public sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with a tactful, diplomatic approach to sensitive matters.
  • Strong IT proficiency and ability to work remotely while travelling to NHS Borders sites as needed.
