Interim Building Surveyor – £250/day (IR35)

About the role

This interim position supports a social housing organisation in London, delivering a wide range of property‑related activities across a residential portfolio. You will diagnose building defects, specify repairs, and manage contractors to ensure safe, timely, and quality‑focused outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage responsive repairs, void refurbishments and planned maintenance works.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑inspections to monitor quality and contractor performance.
• Produce specifications, schedules of work and issue work orders.
• Oversee contractor performance, cost, and programme delivery.
• Support complex repairs and housing disrepair cases.
• Carry out property inspections including voids, mutual exchanges and major repair projects.
• Ensure compliance with housing and building safety legislation.
• Collaborate with residents, contractors and internal teams to achieve excellent customer outcomes.
• Monitor expenditure and maintain best‑value budgets.
• Investigate property defects and recommend remedial solutions.

Required profile

• Experience in social housing, local government or residential property maintenance.
• Qualification in Building Surveying, Construction or related discipline (HNC/HND or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of building construction, maintenance and property defects.
• Proven ability to manage contractors and deliver repairs, planned works and void programmes.
• Understanding of statutory compliance and health & safety requirements.
• Knowledge of procurement and contract management principles.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills with a customer‑focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence and access to transport for business travel.
