Interim Head of Property Compliance & Health & Safety

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Interim Head of Property Compliance, Health & Safety to lead the compliance function for a large housing provider in the North West. This 3‑6 month assignment will report to senior leadership and will be responsible for safeguarding residents and ensuring statutory obligations are met across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead property compliance, building safety and health & safety functions across the housing portfolio.
• Provide strategic and operational oversight of landlord compliance areas including gas, electrical, fire, asbestos, water hygiene and lifting equipment.
• Maintain and improve health & safety management systems, policies and procedures.
• Drive compliance performance, identify and mitigate operational and regulatory risks.
• Oversee safety audits, inspections, investigations and compliance reporting.
• Support the executive team and board with risk, assurance and performance reporting.
• Collaborate with asset management, repairs and operational teams to foster a positive safety culture.
• Manage relationships with contractors, consultants and regulatory bodies.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading property compliance, health & safety or building safety functions within a housing association, local authority or similar regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of social housing compliance requirements and resident safety obligations.
• Proven track record of developing and embedding effective safety management systems and compliance frameworks.
• Experience advising senior leadership and boards on risk, assurance and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement and change management skills.
