Maintenance Electrician – HMP Deerbolt (Prison)

About the role

Hays is recruiting a Maintenance Electrician to work on the premises of HMP Deerbolt, a secure prison in Barnard Castle. The role can be full‑time or part‑time and offers a mix of scheduled and reactive duties within a safe, regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Planned and preventative maintenance of domestic electrical systems.
• Fault diagnosis, component replacement and breakdown response.
• Systematic fault‑finding and root‑cause analysis.
• Electrical installation work in line with BS 7671 (18th Edition).
• Inspection and testing of installations, maintaining records and certifications.
• Inventory management of electrical spares and consumables.

Required profile

• Recognised electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2365 or equivalent).
• 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations certification.
• Proven experience in electrical maintenance, preferably in a domestic or secure environment.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and Safe Systems of Work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Security clearance will be required.
• Valid passport or full birth certificate with photo driving licence at current address.
