About the role
The client, a prestigious university in South Central London, is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Supervisor to join their facilities and maintenance team on a temporary‑to‑permanent basis. The role involves overseeing both planned and reactive maintenance of building services while ensuring safety, compliance and service excellence.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise a team of engineers and specialist contractors delivering mechanical and electrical maintenance works.
- Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes and reactive maintenance activities.
- Ensure all works are carried out safely, efficiently and in line with company procedures and statutory regulations.
- Monitor contractor performance, quality of work and compliance with site requirements.
- Assist with permits to work, risk assessments and method statements.
- Support planning and delivery of minor projects, refurbishments and lifecycle works.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and keep CAFM systems up‑to‑date.
- Conduct routine inspections and audits of plant rooms, equipment and building services infrastructure.
- Provide technical support and guidance to the engineering team.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders and senior management, providing regular operational updates.
- Uphold high standards of health and safety across the site.
Required profile
- Previous experience as an M&E Supervisor, Engineering Supervisor or similar within building services, facilities management or commercial maintenance.
- Recognised electrical or mechanical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent).
- Proven experience managing engineers and subcontractors.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience using CAFM systems and maintenance management processes.
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast‑paced operational environment.
