About the role
Assystem is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit in Sunderland. You will work on multidisciplinary projects for nuclear, marine and oil & gas clients, delivering high‑quality engineering solutions while collaborating with a hybrid team.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and plan project tasks for a team of engineers, coordinating with project management.
- Develop and deliver engineering solutions across mechanical and structural domains.
- Provide regular technical progress updates to the Lead Engineer and Project Manager.
- Mentor junior and graduate engineers, offering technical guidance.
- Manage time effectively to meet deadlines, cost targets and quality standards with minimal supervision.
Required profile
- Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Relevant senior engineering experience in offshore, renewables, nuclear or other highly regulated sectors.
- Strong background in mechanical and structural engineering and the full design cycle from concept to manufacture.
- Familiarity with European and offshore standards such as Eurocode 3 and DNV.
Required skills
- Proficiency with CAD software – Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and/or Catia.
- Experience using MathCAD for calculations.
- Finite Element Analysis expertise, preferably with ANSYS Workbench.
- Knowledge of non‑linear and fatigue FEA, DNV and Eurocode guidelines.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including welding and machining.
- Ability to produce technical reports, design and substantiation documents, and assembly procedures.
