Mental Health Teaching Assistant – Support SEMH Children

About the role

This position supports primary‑aged children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in an alternative provision college in Chichester. You will work alongside teaching staff to create a safe, supportive environment for pupils experiencing trauma, anxiety, OCD and behavioural challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group support for pupils with SEMH difficulties.
• Act as a consistent role model, building trusting relationships with students.
• Assist classroom staff in implementing safeguarding and behaviour‑management plans.
• Monitor and record pupil progress and wellbeing, reporting concerns to the appropriate team.
• Participate in on‑site training and CPD to stay up‑to‑date with mental‑health best practices.

Required profile

• Recent graduate in Psychology, Criminology, Counselling or a related field.
• Open‑minded, resilient and empathetic with a genuine interest in supporting young people.
• Experience working with SEN children or adults in any setting.
• Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).
