Payroll & Pensions Officer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Payroll & Pensions Officer to join a busy public‑sector team on a part‑time permanent basis (2‑3 days a week). The role is hybrid, allowing you to work both from the City of London office and remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Provide input to the external payroll bureau and review outputs for accuracy and completeness.
• Validate payroll calculations, including pay, deductions and statutory requirements.
• Monitor and reconcile bureau outputs, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
• Ensure timely payroll processing and compliance with all relevant legislation.
• Oversee payments to HMRC, pension providers and other statutory bodies.
• Maintain accurate records, audit trails and respond to information requests.
• Support pension processes – contributions, enrolment and reporting.
• Liaise with pension providers to ensure compliant administration.
• Act as the primary internal contact for payroll and pensions queries.
• Assist with the implementation of a new payroll bureau and system, including testing and data validation.

Required profile

• Demonstrable experience in public‑sector payroll.
• Strong knowledge of pensions administration and legislation.
• Experience working with external payroll bureaus.
• Ability to validate payroll outputs and resolve discrepancies.
• Good understanding of statutory and third‑party payment processes.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
