School Catering General Assistant (Enhanced DBS)

About the role

We are seeking a reliable School Catering General Assistant to join a busy education setting in Stanford-le-Hope. The role is temporary, week‑to‑week, and offers flexible shifts between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and cooking meals according to the school menu.
• Serve food to students and staff in a friendly, efficient manner.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in kitchen and dining areas.
• Set up and clear the dining area before and after meals.
• Follow health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
• Support inventory management, including receiving and storing deliveries.
• Provide excellent customer service to students, staff and visitors.
• Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Catering Manager.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a catering or food‑service role.
• Enhanced DBS check held within the last 12 months or registered on the online service.
• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Physical capability to stand for long periods and lift kitchen items.

• Basic inventory handling.
