SEN Teaching Assistant – FE Department (ASC Specialist)

About the role
This full‑time position supports young adults (16‑19) with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a Further Education department. You will work alongside teachers, therapists and support staff to help students develop independence and prepare for adult life.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support tailored to ASC learners’ sensory and communication needs.
- Promote life‑skills, social communication and confidence to aid transition to independent living and employment.
- Collaborate with class teachers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver individualised learning pathways and EHCPs.
- Use proactive de‑escalation techniques and positive reinforcement to manage challenging behaviour.
Required profile
- Experience supporting young people or adults with ASC, SEMH or complex learning difficulties.
- Resilient, empathetic and patient attitude with a genuine desire to celebrate progress.
- Willingness to learn or already familiar with communication tools such as PECS or visual timetables.
- Ability to obtain or hold an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.
