Senior Accountant

About the role

A growing, technology-driven accountancy firm serving UK-based clients with accounting, tax, payroll and advisory services is looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant. The role suits a qualified or part-qualified accountant with strong technical knowledge of UK accounting and tax, and involves managing client portfolios, reviewing work and supporting junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of UK-based clients across sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
• Review bookkeeping, VAT returns and management accounts prepared by junior staff
• Prepare and finalise year-end accounts in line with FRS 102 / FRS 105
• Prepare and review corporation tax computations and CT600 filings, and self-assessment tax returns
• Oversee VAT compliance including Making Tax Digital (MTD) submissions
• Assist with payroll review and pension compliance, and liaise with HMRC on client queries
• Support and mentor junior accountants and assistants, and help improve team processes

Required profile

• ACCA qualified or finalist (or equivalent such as ACA / CIMA)
• Minimum 2-4 years of relevant experience in an accountancy practice
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting and tax principles, and experience preparing year-end accounts and tax returns
• Desirable: experience with UK-based clients, exposure to cloud-based workflow tools, mentoring experience and knowledge of MTD systems

Required skills

• Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage
• Strong Excel and analytical skills
• Ability to manage deadlines and multiple client portfolios
